Today we’re making a zipper bag that’s made entirely out of Liquid Sculpey! You can make one to use as a pencil case, another one to store your makeup, and maybe even one to keep those paint brushes from getting dusty! You can make your bag to match any theme or colors you’d like.
Liquid Sculpey is a bakeable liquid clay that can be used to make many things! There are many colors to choose from, there’s a primary colors set, which includes red, yellow, and blue. A “Basic” set which has your clear, black, and whites. The metallics Liquid Sculpey set includes silver, gold, and pearl. (This one is my favorite) There’s also a glam metallics which has emerald, bronze, and a super pretty rose gold!
Liquid Sculpey is super easy to use. You can use the squeeze bottle to draw thick or thin lines, fill in spaces, and you can mix the colors or even swirl them together! Once you bake it, it’s super duper flexible and strong. You can bend it, twist it, pull on it, and it will not budge!
You can get Liquid Sculpey here: http://bit.ly/olliexsculpey. Use the code “Ollie20” to get 20% your entire order! How cool is that?! Okay, let’s get started!
You will need:
- Liquid Sculpey
- We’ll be using a bottle of clear as well as any colors you’d like to design with!
- Use the code “Ollie20” to save 20% on your entire purchase!
- a silicone baking sheet
- parchment paper
- a zipper (7″ makes a good sized bag)
- extra strength glue
Use the liquid sculpey to draw out a rectangle onto the silicone mat about 1/2″ longer than your zipper and however tall you want it. You can use a dry erase and draw out the rectangle first on the back side of the silicone sheet. This helps you trace a straighter line. Use any color you’d like for the following steps!
Now you can draw a smaller rectangle inside the bigger rectangle. After this you can fill the border with the same color, or even a different color Liquid Sculpey. This is where you can get creative. Finish creating your border and design.
Now, fill in the entire middle with clear Liquid Sculpey. This step is important if you want to be able to see what you have inside the bag. It will look white now, but once baked, it’ll become clear! If you don’t want the front to have a window, you can keep designing the middle with any colors you’d like!
Bake your masterpiece at 275F for 15 minutes. Let it cool before you move onto the next step.
Cut a piece of parchment paper a little bit smaller than the long side of your Liquid Sculpey sheet. Turn over your Liquid Sculpey sheet so the pretty side is facing down. Put the parchment paper on top so that the parchment paper only covers one side. There should be about a 1/4″ space on the other 3 sides so that the bag can become sealed once baked. (Hint: If your bag isn’t totally straight, that’s fine! You can use scissors to trim up the edges.)
Now get creative! Cover the entire back with more Liquid Sculpey! Make flowers, swirls, hearts, stripes, polka dots, or whatever you feel like.
Once you’re done, bake it again for 275F for 15 minutes and let it cool. Trim your baggie if you need to using the front as a guide.
Pull out the parchment paper to reveal your pocket! Isn’t that so cool?
Now use your glue to glue the zipper in place. Let one side dry before doing the other side. Let it fully dry before using the zipper.
That’s it! After it’s fully dry, you can use it anyway you want! Throw your school supplies in there and have a unique custom bag that no one else has! You can even make the bag in your school colors to show your school spirit! I hope you have lots of fun making it. Watch the full tutorial video below!
