I have a craft fair coming up tomorrow and I sat for a month trying to decide what to make. I have so many ideas, but I needed to come up with something that was quick to make for all ages. This DIY Sparkly Snowflake Ornament is what I decided to do. This DIY snowflake ornament is a great idea for a classroom craft. It is inexpensive and really customizable. You can get super duper creative with this DIY.
You will need:
- glue gun (ultra low temp if using it with kids)
- jumbo popsicle sticks
- wooden stars (optional)
- paint brush
- metallic paint
- for a group or classroom craft, I would (have an adult) spray paint the sticks (less messy and no waiting for the paint to dry)
- crystals and other decorations that you can glue on
- some other ideas: pom poms, snowflakes, confetti, glitter, mini ornaments, bells
Paint 3 posicle sticks per snowflake. First paint one side, let it dry and do the other side. Depending on your paint, you might need two or three coats. (My gold paint only needed one coat, but my silver needed THREE!)
Once it’s dry, cross cross the sticks into a “star” and glue it down in the middle.
Now glue the wooden star (or anything fun that you’d like in the center) down.
Decide on how you’re going to decorate your star. You can do all of the same color decorations/crystals, you can make a pattern, or you can go wild with all the colors of the rainbow. Glue them down and let the decorations dry a little bit.
Then cut a small piece of string. Make a loop and glue it to the back of one of the sticks with your glue gun. This will be used to hang the ornament.
That’s it! You’re done! It’s SO sparkly and SO awesome!
